Having multiple passions can be both a blessing and a challenge. When you’re unsure which passion to pursue first or how to take the first step towards realising your dreams, it’s essential to remember that it’s okay to have multiple interests, passions or dreams. As an entrepreneur who has experienced numerous shifts and transformations throughout my journey since year 2010, I’ve come to understand that there are three crucial stages to successfully navigating the path of pursuing multiple passions and/or choosing which of your passion(s) to focus on at any one time.
Stage 1: Discovering & Embracing Your Multiple Passions As An Entrepreneur
When faced with multiple passions, it’s important to ask yourself which one brings you the most joy. Consider which passion makes you feel the most connected and alive. Reflect on the idea that if you don’t take action to pursue this passion in your lifetime, you may regret it. From your list of passions, identify the top two that resonate with you on a deep level. These will serve as the starting point for your entrepreneurial journey.
Stage 2: Evaluating Feasibility and Practicality - Which of Your Passions Can Become A Profitable Business?
Once you’ve identified your top two passions for your current season of life or entrepreneurship, the next step is to evaluate their feasibility in terms of transforming them into a business. Ask yourself questions like:
Do you possess the necessary resources to create or procure the products/services related to your passion?
Can you secure funding or investments?
Assess the practicality of bringing your passion to life. Determine which of the top two passions is the most viable and feasible for you to pursue.
Stage 3: Take Action & Get Started. Embrace the Process of Entrepreneurship Trial and Error
Taking action to start your business is the next step, and it’s an exciting one. Fortunately, we live in a world abundant with digital tools and resources that enable anyone to start a business in just a day. Don’t allow fear of the initial setup to hold you back. Enjoy the process of setting up your business, knowing that it’s a trial and error journey. Understand that success rarely comes in the first attempt; it often involves multiple iterations and adjustments.
The entrepreneurial journey is characterised by constant adaptation. You must be prepared to pivot your approach in response to changing consumer demands, economic fluctuations, and unforeseen circumstances like the recent pandemic. Embrace the notion that testing, adapting, and repeating are integral parts of “failing forward.” Failure is not a setback but rather a stepping stone on the path toward success.
For individuals with multiple passions, entrepreneurship offers an incredible opportunity to bring their dreams to life. By following the three stages outlined above—discovering your true joy, assessing feasibility, and embracing the trial and error process—you can begin your entrepreneurial journey with confidence.
Remember, success is not an endpoint; it’s a constantly evolving destination. As you embark on this path, remain open to change, adaptation, and growth. Celebrate the joy found in pursuing your passions and trust in your ability to navigate the challenges that arise along the way.
